Initial Certification indicates that physicians have met rigorous standards through intensive study, accredited training and evaluation and that they have the clinical judgment, skills and attitudes essential for the delivery of excellent patient care.

MOC is a professionally determined standard that attests that an internist is staying current in knowledge and practice throughout his/her career.

For more than 75 years, Certification by ABIM has stood for the highest standard in internal medicine and its 20 subspecialties.

Claiming CME Credit

The AMA recognizes the educational effort associated with successfully completing an American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) member board certification process. Upon achievement of your ABIM Board Certification in internal medicine or a subspecialty, you will be eligible to claim AMA PRA Category 1 CME Credits™ directly from the AMA. As documentation of your certification, the AMA will require either a copy of your certification letter from ABIM or a copy of your new ABIM certificate.

For more information and to download the AMA direct credit application, visit the AMA website. Mail or fax your completed application to the AMA, along with:

  1. A copy of your new ABIM certificate

    OR

  2. A copy of the certification notification letter you received from ABIM
