Hospital Medicine Exam

The Hospital Medicine Maintenance of Certification exam is administered by ABIM at Prometric Testing Centers. Seat assignments are made on a first-come, first-served basis.

It is the sole responsibility of the candidate to be aware of and comply with seat scheduling deadlines. In fairness to all candidates, ABIM firmly adheres to its published scheduling deadlines its examinations. Candidates are strongly urged to apply early in the seat scheduling period.

Schedule online:

  • To schedule a seat for your exam, have your ABIM ID ready (for scheduling purposes, please include “ABIM” in front of your ID number (i.e. ABIM999999) and visit http://prometric.com/ABIM during the scheduling periods listed below.
  • After scheduling, you will immediately receive an e-mail confirmation notice. This notice will contain your confirmation number, which is required if you need to change your test center.

Schedule by telephone:

  • Have your ABIM ID ready (for scheduling purposes, please include “ABIM” in front of your ID number (i.e. ABIM999999) and call Prometric at 1-866-846-6292, Monday through Friday, 7am to 7pm Eastern Time during the seat scheduling period listed below.
  • The Prometric representative will give you a confirmation number verbally and will follow up with an e-mail confirmation.

After scheduling please note:

  • You will receive a reminder e-mail from ABIM 2 weeks prior to your exam date.
  • You will get a reminder e-mail from Prometric 2 days before your exam date.
  • You should complete the Hospital Medicine MOC exam tutorial to prepare before your exam date.

When can I take my exam?

A diplomate is eligible to schedule a seat to take the ABIM Hospital Medicine MOC exam once they are accepted into and enter the Focused Practice in Hospital Medicine program. Exams are offered twice a year, in spring and fall, and are administered at Prometric Testing Centers.

Seat Scheduling Periods:

  • Spring Exam: December 1 – February 28 (as of the Spring 2012 exam administration)
  • Fall Exam: May 1 – August 15 (as of the Fall 2011 exam administration)

Your name in ABIM's records

THE NAME ON THE ID THAT YOU TAKE TO THE TEST CENTER ON EXAM DAY MUST MATCH ABIM’S RECORDS BEFORE YOU TAKE YOUR EXAM. ABIM uses your full, official name in its records. To change your name, or to correct the spelling of your name, you must notify ABIM in writing. ABIM also requires your current contact information, both your mailing and e-mail addresses, as well as your telephone number. Update your contact information online or send your changes to:
