Health Care Organizations Recognizing Maintenance of Certification
In an effort to reduce the redundancy of data collection and measurement for physicians maintaining their certification, a number of health care organizations are recognizing diplomates who are enrolled and actively participating in Maintenance of Certification. These opportunities, in particular those with health insurers, enable diplomates to receive financial rewards through pay-for-performance programs, recognition in online physician directories, and inclusion in quality-tiered networks. To further extend this opportunity, ABIM is actively reaching out to a number of hospitals and health systems, as well as many consumer organizations. In addition, ABIM and other ABMS boards have joined efforts to further reduce the burden to physicians practicing in mixed groups and in specialties closely related to internal medicine.
