ABIM Board Certified in Internal Medicine (1980, 1998, 2008) “Following the journals helps me prepare for the MOC examination. I have a tendency to read through lunch and at the end of the day. Having this habit has really helped me through the MOC process. I've used ACP's MKSAP program as a resource tool for a while. Since ABIM gives credit for MKSAP completion, I also earn Self-Evaluation of Medical Knowledge points for something I’d do anyway.” |

“Reviewing for the secure examination was not very involved, since I practice exclusively within the medical oncology discipline. I also attend ASCO meetings annually and what I learned there also aided in my preparation. Provided other doctors are in clinical practice with any regularity, I don’t think they will find it difficult to complete the MOC program. ”

“When I renewed my gastroenterology certification through the ABIM Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program, I tried to give myself ample time and spaced things out so I wouldn’t get overwhelmed. I prepared for the exam at night, tackling the general GI material first since that’s easier for me. I spread it out so as not to get overwhelmed and studied in spurts. I found the secure exam very reasonable. The case-based questions were challenging but reflected things you might see in practice. They were very manageable with the studying I had done.”

“The exam questions and the test itself are fair and pertain to what I do. I was so impressed! When I passed, I felt so good about myself and my practice. I still had it! It’s gratifying to know where I stand among my peers. I would encourage anyone toying with the idea of recertifying to do it.”

ABIM Board Certified in Internal Medicine (1973), Medical Oncology (1975, 2006), and Hematology (1978) “While it was tough to find study time, I found that making a study schedule helped. There’s always time for something you’re interested in and committed to, so I made an effort to use some of the lost time we all have – time sitting in traffic or on the Metro – to better use. By carrying my study materials with me, I could study whenever time presented itself.” |
