Holly J. Humphrey, MD Elected Chair of American Board of Internal Medicine Board of Directors

Philadelphia, PA, July 6, 2006 – Holly J. Humphrey, MD, Professor of Medicine and Dean for Medical Education at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, has been elected Chair of the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Board of Directors. The announcement was made at a meeting held in conjunction with ABIM's 70th anniversary. Dr. Humphrey's one-year term became effective July 1.

"Dr. Humphrey has the skills, experience and qualifications necessary to successfully represent the internal medicine profession," said Christine K. Cassel, MD, President and CEO of ABIM. "She is passionate about improving the quality of health care, and I'm confident that she will make an outstanding leader of our Board."

In her role as Dean for Medical Education, Dr. Humphrey oversees the undergraduate medical education of students at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, and the graduate medical education of residents and fellows in all training programs sponsored by the University of Chicago Hospitals.

Dr. Humphrey received her medical degree from the University of Chicago and continued her postgraduate work there, completing a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine. She is board certified in internal medicine.

The ABIM Board of Directors is comprised of 29 physicians who are board certified in internal medicine or one of its disciplines.
