Marie T. Brown, MD, FACP, Elected to the American Board of Internal Medicine Board of Directors

Philadelphia, PA, July 1, 2008 – Marie T. Brown, MD, FACP, a practicing internist, has been elected to the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Board of Directors. ABIM sets the standards and certifies physicians practicing in internal medicine and its subspecialties who possess the knowledge, skills and attitudes required to provide high quality care.

The Board of Directors, composed of physicians board certified in internal medicine and its subspecialties, guides ABIM's overall mission and direction as it works to improve health care quality. All ABIM Directors participate in ABIM's Maintenance of Certification program, which promotes ongoing learning and in which doctors demonstrate their commitment to the Board's standards. ABIM has issued more than 220,000 certificates in internal medicine.

"A practicing physician with a broad scope of medical knowledge, Marie understands firsthand the challenges facing primary care today,” said Christine Cassel, MD, ABIM's president and CEO. "Her insight and experience will make her a valuable addition to our Board."

Dr. Brown has been practicing internal medicine and geriatric medicine in Oak Park, IL for the past 20 years. During that time, she has held many professional appointments including various teaching positions. Most recently, she was Chair of the Scientific Program Subcommittee for the Annual Session of the American College of Physicians, of which she is a Fellow. Her work has been published in leading professional journals including American Journal of Medicine and Mayo Clinic Proceedings.

She received her medical degree from Rush Medical College where she is an assistant professor and is board certified in internal medicine and geriatric medicine.
