Q + A: Maintenance of Certification for Cardiologists
How do I enroll in Maintenance of Certification?
- Visit www.abim.org and click on Physician Login.
- Enter your ABIM candidate number and password. If you have never before logged into your Home Page, the default password is your six-digit date of birth (MMDDYY).
- On your Home Page, select Enroll in Maintenance of Certification Program and follow the instructions to complete and submit the application.
What are the Self-Evaluation Requirements?
- Candidates must earn 100 points of Self-Evaluation.
- They must complete one medical knowledge module (in any discipline).
- They must complete one PIMsm Practice Improvement Module.
- Additional modules that are needed to earn 100 points can be any combination of medical knowledge modules or PIMs.
- ABIM medical knowledge modules are worth 10 or 20 points each, depending on the module.
- PIMs are worth from 20 to 40 points each, depending on the module.
How do I order Self-Evaluation Modules?
- Log in at the Physician Login section of www.abim.org.
- Select Order Medical Knowledge Module or Order Practice Performance Module.
- Follow the instructions to select a module and module format.
- Modules in Internet or Web-based format will be made available to you on your Home Page.
- If you order a PIM that requires patient or peer surveys, the surveys will be mailed to you.
How do I register for the Maintenance of Certification Examination in Cardiovascular Disease, Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology or Interventional Cardiology?
- The Secure Examination is offered twice a year, in the Spring and Fall.
- Registration period for the Spring exam is from December 1 to February 15.
- Registration period for the Fall exam is from May 1 to August 1.
- You must be enrolled in Maintenance of Certification to register.
- You can take the exam as early as year six.
- During the registration period, you will call the Pearson VUE Appointment Center at 1-800-601-3549 to schedule your examination and select a test center location.
- ABIM strongly encourages you to register early during the registration period to ensure getting a seat in the test center that you prefer. Seating is limited and will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
