Prepare for the Exam: Take the Tutorial

Once you are scheduled for a Certification or Maintenance of Certification examination, ABIM strongly urges you to prepare for the exam by taking the online tutorial. The tutorial will help you become familiar with the computer-based exam and will greatly improve your efficiency on exam day. The tutorial takes only 30 minutes and gives you the opportunity to practice:

  • Answering questions
  • Changing answers
  • Making notes electronically
  • Accessing the table of normal laboratory values
  • Marking questions for review

Note that the tutorial will familiarize you with the computer-based testing environment you will experience on exam day and not the content of your examination.

Tutorials are available for both Windows and Macintosh users, and the requirements for both of these programs are provided.

Procedures vary for those preparing to take the Cardiovascular Disease and Adolescent Medicine exams. Cardiovascular Disease candidates using a PC should choose the “Download for candidates in Cardiovascular Disease only” link found within the Windows section of the tutorial page. There is no Macintosh version for the Cardiovascular Disease tutorial at this time, but candidates will have the chance to view the Windows tutorial for 30 minutes on exam day.

Administered by the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP), the Adolescent Medicine Examination tutorial is available at the American Board of Pediatrics website. To view the tutorial and the exam demonstration, locate the box for “Recertification PMCP” and click on “Information About PMCP” and then click on “Examination Demo.”
