Registration Opens for Hospice and Palliative Medicine Certification Exam
Recognizing the growing number of internists providing palliative care, ABIM is now offering certification in Hospice and Palliative Medicine. The examination, offered to both general internists and subspecialists, is designed to certify physicians specializing in the care of chronically and terminally-ill patients.
This exam, designed through the collaboration of 10 certifying boards, reinforces the importance of excellent hospice and palliative medicine across disciplines. ABIM is the administrative board for this examination, but other sponsoring boards are also offering their diplomates the opportunity to achieve this new certification through their own policy guidelines.
The first ABIM Hospice and Palliative Medicine Certification Examination will be offered on October 29, 2008. Diplomates should note that exam registration is March 1, 2008 through May 1, 2008. Applications will continue to be accepted with a $400 late fee from May 2, 2008 through June 1, 2008. Please note that this examination will be given every two years (in 2008, 2010, 2012, etc.).
