Initial Certification indicates that physicians have met rigorous standards through intensive study, accredited training and evaluation and that they have the clinical judgment, skills and attitudes essential for the delivery of excellent patient care.

MOC is a professionally determined standard that attests that an internist is staying current in knowledge and practice throughout his/her career.

For more than 75 years, Certification by ABIM has stood for the highest standard in internal medicine and its 20 subspecialties.

Multi-Specialty Portfolio Approval Program

The Multi-Specialty Portfolio Approval Program™ (Portfolio Program), a service provided through the American Board of Medical Specialties® (ABMS), works with all types of health care organizations to recognize the work physicians are already doing to improve their practices and the care of their patients. It offers an option for organizations to support physician involvement in quality, performance and process improvement (QI/PI) initiatives at their institution and awards physicians Practice Assessment MOC credit. Visit the Portfolio Program website for more information on becoming a sponsor organization.
