Philadelphia, PA, July 1, 2008 – David P. Huston, MD, Vice Dean for Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine and Chief Academic Officer – Houston Campus, and Director for the Texas A&M Center for Clinical and Translational Science, has been elected to the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Board of Directors. ABIM sets the standards and certifies physicians practicing in internal medicine and its subspecialties who possess the knowledge, skills and attitudes required to provide high quality care.

The Board of Directors, composed of physicians board certified in internal medicine and one of its subspecialties, guides ABIM's overall mission and direction as it works to improve health care quality. All ABIM Directors participate in ABIM's Maintenance of Certification program, which promotes ongoing learning and in which doctors demonstrate their commitment to the Board’s standards.

Dr. Huston is the representative of the American Board of Allergy and Immunology (ABAI), a Board jointly sponsored by ABIM and the American Board of Pediatrics.

“We're pleased that David is representing the perspective of allergists and immunologists, and his qualifications and expertise will make him a valuable member of our Board,” said Christine K. Cassel, MD, ABIM's President and CEO.

“Both organizations share the same commitment to health care quality, and I am honored to represent ABAI on the ABIM Board of Directors,” said Dr. Huston.

An active clinician, educator, and physician-scientist on immunological diseases, Dr. Huston has participated on many National Institutes of Health committees, has been an invited lecturer at leading professional conferences and has served on the editorial board of several leading journals. He is currently a member of the ACGME Residency Review Committee on Allergy and Immunology, the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology; and a member of the NIH Study Section on Hypersensitivity Autoimmunity and Immune Mediated Diseases. Dr. Huston has also been honored by election to the American Clinical and Climatological Association and the Association of American Physicians.

Dr. Huston earned his medical degree from the Bowman Gray School of Medicine at Wake Forest University. He is ABIM certified in internal medicine and rheumatology, and is also board certified by the American Board of Allergy and Immunology and in Diagnostic and Laboratory Immunology.
