John K. Davis II to Join the American Board of Internal Medicine as Chief Information Officer

Philadelphia, PA, April 2, 2009 – John K. Davis II has been named Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer at the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM), effective April 13. In this newly created position, Mr. Davis will work closely with senior management and the Board of Directors to provide the vision, strategic direction, and operational oversight for the development and implementation of information technology initiatives that support ABIM's mission to ensure the quality of our nation's health care system by certifying physicians who practice internal medicine or one of its 19 subspecialties. ABIM certification is recognized as a marker of a physician's professionalism, knowledge and skill.

Mr. Davis will be a key contributor to formulating ABIM's overall strategic business objectives and will be responsible for aligning the IT strategic plan to facilitate achievement of these objectives.

“John's extensive experience in information technology and health care will be invaluable as we work to design a certification and maintenance of certification program that is built on innovative, user friendly technology,” said Christine K. Cassel, MD, ABIM's President and CEO. “John will help us align our data collection and assessment efforts with others in the health care community, thereby reducing the burden on physicians to collect data for multiple stakeholders.”

Mr. Davis brings more than 30 years of experience in information technology and is an accomplished CIO. Mr. Davis comes to ABIM from Omnicare Clinical Research where he served as Executive Vice President and CIO. At Omnicare he helped to build and globalize the Clinic al Research Organization, which operates in 30 countries, providing clinical trials and data analysis for pharmaceutical manufacturers and other biotechnology companies. Previous positions include Senior Vice President and CIO for Trans Financial Bankcorp, a financial services holding company located in Kentucky.

Mr. Davis has worked in various IT positions for companies such as SmithKline Beecham and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Maryland. He holds an MBA from Drexel University, with a concentration in International Business.
