Medical Knowledge

Medical knowledge activities test you on both evolving and established knowledge in your field. To meet MOC requirements, you must earn at least 20 medical knowledge points every five years.

Options for earning Medical Knowledge points:

Are there CME activities that you are already doing?

ABIM recognizes hundreds of CME activities that also offer MOC points. Visit ACCME to see a full list of activities that earn CME and MOC points.

Would you like to complete an ABIM activity in your specialty?

ABIM activities are included in your MOC fee. Our annual updates allow you to examine your knowledge, strengths and weaknesses in important clinical areas, and most have been designated for AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Learn more.

Are you attending an event where a learning session is being held?

Learning Sessions provide an opportunity to learn, in a live, interactive environment, from clinical experts who will lead participants through ABIM Medical Knowledge activities. View learning session event schedule.

Do you want an alternative to the above options?

Below are ABIM activities that are included in your MOC fee:

Try the ABIM Care for the Underserved activity, which will help you understand the challenges and opportunities in treating diverse populations and ultimately improve the care you deliver to all patients.

Do the ABIM Point-of-Care (POC) Clinical Question activity, which allows you to document, in a way that facilitates reflection, the characteristics, pursuit and answers to your emerging clinical questions, and the resulting evidence-based learning points and potential practice changes.

Request the ABIM Clinical Skills activity. While this product uses dated technology (CD ROM), upon successful completion of this activity, you should be able to assess underlying causes of symptoms, communicate effectively with patients, and make decisions requiring ethical judgment.
