Have you successfully completed a fellowship in the area in which you would like to specialize? Have you also earned initial certification in internal medicine and hold a state medical license in good standing with no restrictions?

Certification encompasses the six general competencies established by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and sets the stage for continual professional development through values centered on lifelong learning.

Board Eligibility
As of July 2012, the American Board of Internal Medicine considers all internal medicine and subspecialist physicians who have met the standards for board certification in general internal medicine or any of its subspecialties to be “Board Eligible” in the relevant specialty for a period of seven years.
