Resident and Fellow Workforce Data: Academic Years 2014/2015 – 2023/2024

The data present the size and demographics of internal medicine training for academic years 2014/2015 through 2023/2024, for internal medicine residency programs and subspecialty fellowship programs.

The workforce data presented in this report were drawn from FasTrack®, ABIM's tracking database, a program to which program directors annually submit clinical competence evaluations for all residents and fellows. Because of the variability of when training data are submitted, the adjustments may over- or understate the actual number of trainees in a given year. To provide the most accurate data possible, each workforce report will present the most current data available.

 Annual Diplomate Reports

These reports focus on the current state of each ABIM discipline, while using historic trends to provide appropriate context. The reports highlight the current status of the diplomate population, growth in the diplomate population over time, participation in Maintenance of Certification, demographic characteristics and assessment statistics.

LKA Specialty Knowledge Gaps Annual Reports

The purpose of the Specialty Knowledge Gaps Annual Reports is to provide information regarding areas of relative strength and weakness based on physician performance on the ABIM Longitudinal Knowledge Assessments (LKA®).

The charts display overall average performance (the average percentage of questions answered correctly) in the top-level blueprint areas for the discipline as well as performance across various demographic categorizations within that discipline. Please note that the LKA is not offered in every discipline. Read the FAQs for more information about the LKA Specialty Knowledge Gaps Reports.
