Kathleen G. Noonan, JD, appointed to American Board of Internal Medicine’s Board of Directors

Philadelphia, September 19, 2025 — The American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) announced that Kathleen G. Noonan, JD, President and CEO of the Camden Coalition, has been appointed to the ABIM Board of Directors for a three-year term effective September 9, 2025.

Ms. Noonan is one of two public (non-internist) members on the Board, which is composed primarily of practicing physicians and sets the direction, strategy and goals for ABIM. Consistent with ABIM Governance as a whole, public members help ensure that board certification remains relevant and valuable to patients and the broader community by representing a wide range of perspectives from across the healthcare landscape.

“The ABIM Board of Directors is intentionally designed to bring important voices from across the field of internal medicine to advance the ABIM mission, demonstrating that physicians have the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for excellent patient care.  Public members bring authentic perspective to this work,” said Furman S. McDonald, MD, MPH, President and CEO of ABIM and the ABIM Foundation. “Kathleen has demonstrated an inspiring commitment to enhancing the quality of health care through impactful initiatives that connect patients and physicians. Her work is deeply grounded in the same principles that move ABIM forward, particularly our commitment to being ‘of the profession and for the public.’ Her expertise in law, health policy and public health will be so valuable to the important work of the Board in these coming years.”

Established in 2002, the Camden Coalition is a multidisciplinary citywide alliance of primary care providers, health and social service organizations, and community representatives working to deliver better care to individuals with complex health and social needs. Ms. Noonan has served as CEO since 2018. Among other initiatives, she worked with other health-based nonprofits and the governor of New Jersey to establish four Regional Health Hubs, including the Camden Coalition, in 2020, which supported the state’s ability to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ms. Noonan previously spent 10 years working at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). In 2008, she cofounded PolicyLab at CHOP to connect clinical research with real-world health policy priorities. She continues to serve as adjunct faculty in the Division of Pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine and as mediator in numerous public-impact litigations concerning health, behavioral health and human service issues. She is also an advisor to the University of California Board of Regents Health Services Committee.
