Representation of Credentials

As a primary source of verification of certification, ABIM is frequently contacted by credentialists and other entities to verify certification status. Below are guidelines for how you can represent yourself as ABIM Board Certified for all ABIM certifications that are currently valid:

If you hold one valid certification:

[John Doe, MD], ABIM Board Certified in [Internal Medicine]

OR

[Jane Doe, MD], a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine

OR

[Jane Doe, MD], Board Certified in [Cardiovascular Disease] by the American Board of Internal Medicine

If you hold more than one valid certification:

[John Doe, MD], ABIM Board Certified in [Internal Medicine] and [Cardiovascular Disease]

OR

[Jane Doe, MD], a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine

OR

[Jane Doe, MD], Board Certified in [Internal Medicine] and [Cardiovascular Disease] by the American Board of Internal Medicine

ABIM candidates and diplomates are expected to accurately report their certification status and other credentials at all times. Altering ABIM documents (i.e., certificates, Verification of Certification letters or score reports) is strictly prohibited.
