Endocrinology, Diabetes, & Metabolism Board

The Specialty Boards and Advisory Committees aim to maintain a composition that reflects the diversity and complexity of the physician and patient populations that certification serves. They include both practicing physician members and public members representing interdisciplinary healthcare professionals, patients and caregivers.

Dr. Twining is an ABIM Board Certified endocrinologist and Medical Director at the Maine Medical Partners Center for Endocrinology and Diabetes, a group of eight endocrinologists in Scarborough, Maine. She practices general endocrinology with a focus on thyroid disease, metabolic bone disease and transitional care. Additionally, Dr. Twining is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Tufts School of Medicine and teaches Tufts medical students and residents at Maine Medical Center, where she also serves as an advisor to internal medicine-pediatrics residents.

She has been a member of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE) board of directors since 2015. She served previously as AACE's representative to the Young Physicians Section of the American Medical Association and as the Fellow-in-Training Representative to the Board of Directors. She also served on the board of the New England Chapter of AACE and was its president in 2013-2014. She has served on many AACE committees, including Endocrine Training Support, Socioeconomics, Chapters, Membership, Pediatric Endocrinology, and Endocrine University and the Task Force on Women in Endocrinology, among others.

Dr. Twining has an Artium Baccalaureus from Harvard College and a medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine. She completed a combined internal medicine-pediatrics residency at Yale University followed by an endocrinology fellowship at the University of South Carolina.

Dr. DeSalvo is an endocrinologist at Intermountain Health in Salt Lake City. She is ABIM Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism. Her special clinical interests include thyroid disease, radiofrequency ablation of thyroid nodules and thyroid cancer. 

Dr. DeSalvo graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Colorado Boulder. She completed her Medical Doctorate, internal medicine residency and endocrinology fellowship at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Center.

Headshot of Ann Marie Hasse

Ms. Hasse is the Inpatient Diabetes Educator at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. She has been a nurse for 31 years and a Certified Diabetes and Educational Specialist (CDCES) for 20 years, working with people with diabetes in the inpatient, outpatient and community settings. She has assisted several hospitals within Northwell Health to achieve certification for Inpatient Diabetes Management from the Joint Commission. In 2018, she also became a board certified Nurse Coach and board certified Holistic Nurse.


Ms. Hasse is a member of the Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (ADCES). As a CDCES, her experience has included trying to improve transition-of-care within Northwell Health and ACDES Community of Interest groups. Ms. Hasse is also the Co-Chair of the Diabetes Best Practice Work Group in Northwell Health, which works on creating policies, protocols and order sets to improve the care and safety of those living with diabetes in the hospital.

Ms. Hasse is an instructor at the Center for Learning and Innovation at Northwell. She has been a speaker at Northwell conferences and presented posters at national conferences, in addition to several publications including “Development of a Diabetes Learning Needs Assessment Tool to Promote an Individualized Predischarge Patient Education Plan.” She is a co-author on a chapter of Diabetes and Covid-19, “Risks of Covid-19 in Persons with Diabetes,” and a co-author on a charter, “Inpatient Diabetes Education,” in an upcoming book on the topic of diabetes management in hospitalized patients. She is also an abstract reviewer for The Journal of Patient Experience. Ms. Hasse has also received several Mentor Awards from the Certification Board for Diabetes Care and Education and by ADCES.

Ms. Hasse received a bachelor's degree from Molloy College and a master's degree in nursing education from Regis University.

Dr. Moledina is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Alabama Heersink School of Medicine and joined as the faculty at UAB Hospital in 2022. She is ABIM Board Certified in Internal Medicine as well as Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism. She serves as the Director of Endocrine Inpatient Services at UAB Hospital and as a Director of the Fracture Liaison Service/Osteoporosis and Metabolic Bone Clinic at UAB Hospital-Highlands. Her clinical practice focuses on general endocrinology, with special expertise in osteoporosis and metabolic bone disease.  

Dr. Moledina earned her medical degree from Gujarat Adani Institute of Medical Sciences in India. She completed her residency at NYU Winthrop Hospital in New York and completed her fellowship training at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Dr. Ruiz is an endocrinologist at Sanford Health in Fargo, North Dakota, and Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences. He is ABIM Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism. He has a clinical practice of general endocrinology with a particular focus on thyroid disease and thyroid malignancies.

Dr. Ruiz has multiple leadership roles, including Chair of the Endocrinology Department at Sanford Health in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He is also a member of the Physician Executive Council and Chair of Care Monitoring at Sanford Health. He is the current president of the Midwest Endocrinology Society (previously the American Association of Clinical Endocrinology Minnesota/Midwest Chapter). He is a Fellow of the American Colleague of Physicians and an active member of the Endocrine Society and American Association of Clinical Endocrinology.

Dr. Ruiz earned his medical degree at the Universidad de Monterrey in Mexico. He completed an internal medicine residency at Baylor College of Medicine and an endocrinology fellowship at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science in Rochester, Minnesota.

Ms. Schwartz is the Diabetes Education Program Coordinator at Self Regional Healthcare in Greenwood, South Carolina. Previously, she worked at the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes in Aurora, Colorado, and assisted in starting the Mobile Diabetes Clinic at Self Regional Healthcare.

Ms. Schwartz is a member of the Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (ADCES) and the American Diabetes Association. She is the Advocacy Chair for the South Carolina ADCES Coordinating Body. As a Certified Diabetes and Educational Specialist, her experience includes trying to improve diabetes management and quality of life for people living with diabetes, and integrating diabetes technology into patient care to reduce the burden of diabetes management.

Ms. Schwartz received her bachelor's degrees from Roger Williams University in Bristol, Rhode Island, and a nursing degree from the University of Colorado College of Nursing in Aurora, Colorado.
