Pulmonary Disease Board
The Specialty Boards and Advisory Committees aim to maintain a composition that reflects the diversity and complexity of the physician and patient populations that certification serves. They include both practicing physician members and public members representing interdisciplinary healthcare professionals, patients and caregivers.
Dr. Murin is the Interim Dean of the University of California (UC) Davis School of Medicine. She formerly served as Vice-Chair of Internal Medicine, Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs and Director of the UC Davis Medical Group at UC Davis Health System. Former roles at UC Davis include Program Director for the Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship, Chief of the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine, and Chief of the Medical Staff. Her past national service has included membership on the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education’s Internal Medicine Residency Review Committee and Chair of the Association of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Program Directors. Dr. Murin is ABIM Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine.
Dr. Murin's research has been focused in two areas: epidemiology of venous thromboembolism and the effects of smoking on the natural history of breast cancer. She remains active in clinical care and teaching at UC Davis, and recently retired from the VA after nearly 30 years of part-time service as a clinician and educator.
Dr. Murin received her undergraduate degree from Rutgers University and her medical degree at New York University. She completed her residency in internal medicine at NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue and fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at Yale University. She subsequently received a Master of Science in Clinical Epidemiology from the Harvard School of Public Health and a Master of Business Administration from the UC Davis Graduate School of Management.

He is Associate Director of the Medical Intensive Care Unit and is the Director of Quality Improvement of the Division at the Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital in Houston. He also serves as the Director of Interventional Pulmonology and Pleural Diseases at the Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital, part of the largest safety net hospital system within Houston with a significant population of underserved patients. Dr. Cherian's areas of interest within pulmonary medicine include rare lung diseases, interventional pulmonology and pleural diseases, while within critical care, his main areas of focus has been acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and mechanical ventilation.
Dr. Cherian serves on the editorial board in leading respiratory journals, including CHEST, the Journal of Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology (JOBIP), as section editor for Occupational and Environmental Lung Diseases in Current Pulmonology Reports since 2019, and as associate editor for Respiratory Medicine. Dr. Cherian has published more than 85 peer-reviewed manuscripts and 10 book chapters, and coedited a book, Rare Lung Diseases: A Comprehensive Clinical Guide to Diagnosis and Management, published by CRC Press, Taylor and Francis Group in 2023. He is the recipient of numerous teaching awards and was inducted into the Academy of Master Educators at the University of Texas Health-McGovern Medical School. Furthermore, he received the “Distinguished CHEST Educator Award” three years in a row from the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP). Dr. Cherian is an elected Fellow of CHEST (FCCP) and holds several leadership positions within the organization.

Ms. Connor is a patient advocate and volunteer living with pulmonary arterial hypertension, as well as a breast cancer survivor and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Pulmonary Hypertension Association (PHA). Since her initial diagnosis in 2007, Ms. Connor has dedicated herself to helping and encouraging others with pulmonary hypertension to hope for a cure, and has engaged in numerous advocacy and fundraising activities to advance awareness and research. In 2013, she held the first “Philadelphia’s Hope for a Cure Gala” followed by two additional galas in 2015 and 2017, collectively raising more than $600,000 to benefit PHA. She currently serves as Chair of the PHA Board of Trustees Development Committee and as a member of both the Governance Committee and Strategic Planning Committee. Previously, Ms. Connor served as a Vice President of Sales and subsequently Global Sales Operations for SAP America, Inc.
In addition, Ms. Connor volunteers as Co-Leader for the University of Pennsylvania PHA Support Group, and annually in support of the PHA Philadelphia Walk. As an advocate, she has appeared before Congress, participates in PHA’s Advocacy Action Network and presented on pulmonary hypertension to pharmaceutical companies. She has spoken from the patient perspective at PHA international conferences and testified on a PHA panel before the Food and Drug Administration.
Ms. Connor was an early advocate of the PHA Registry, and secured a $25,000 grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation President’s Grant Fund of the Princeton Area Community Foundation to analyze the impact and benefit of pulmonary hypertension patient support groups on patient outcomes. She also served as a patient member for the University of Pennsylvania’s Formal Review and Evaluation as they sought certification to become one of the first PHA Comprehensive Care Centers, and served on the PHA Research Portfolio Working Group.
Following her breast cancer diagnosis in 2018, Ms. Connor has volunteered with Unite for HER, working to establish national partnerships and funding to support underserved patients. Unite for HER recognized Ms. Connor’s service in 2023 with the annual Service Award.
Ms. Connor is a native of Philadelphia, where she completed her undergraduate study at LaSalle University.

Dr. Kane is the Jane and Leonard Korman Professor and Chair of the Department of Medicine, a position he has held since 2011. For fourteen years, he served as Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency at Sidney Kimmel Medical College. A national leader in the fields of pulmonary medicine, critical care and medical education, Dr. Kane has served the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) on the Critical Care Test and Policy Committee (1996 – 2006) and the ABIM Hospitalist Medicine Test Committee helping develop the very first examination for recertification in Hospital Medicine. He was elected to a three-year term on the Council of the Association of Program Directors in Internal Medicine (APDIM) in 2006 and served as the Association's president from 2013 to 2014. He has also served as Treasurer of the Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine (AAIM), the leading organization of academic physicians nationally representing chairs of medicine, program directors, clerkship directors, subspecialty professors and administrators within departments of medicine. Dr. Kane is a former Governor and a current lifetime Master of the American College of Physicians (ACP), representing Pennsylvania. In 2019, he was elected Treasurer of ACP for three years as a volunteer leader.

Stroger Hospital of Cook County in 2008, Dr. Quesada has demonstrated exceptional leadership as director of outpatient clinical activities and the pulmonary rehabilitation program. Dr. Quesada has successfully expanded medication access for disadvantaged patients, championed modernization of clinical facilities and collaborated with local government on clean air policies benefiting under-resourced neighborhoods.
As an educator, she has created an inclusive training environment for medical fellows, emphasizing patient-centered and evidence-based approaches.
